The World of Chinese is seeking a Managing Editor. The magazine focuses on Chinese culture and language and is published by China's oldest publisher, The Commercial Press. The magazine is available by subscription globally and at a number of point-of-sale locations in Beijing and Shanghai. This position is based in Beijing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage the overall editorial direction of the magazine, including idea generation, research, writing and/or managing freelance writers and photographers, sourcing/conceptualizing accompanying artwork; ensuring timely content submission, developing column-related network of writers/experts/contacts and brainstorming potential market tie-in’s (eg advertorials, strategic partnerships, etc.)
• Manage a dedicated team of both English and Chinese editors, designers and interns to ensure the timely publication of each bi-monthly issue
• Edit all English content for each magazine issue for content, grammar, syntax, punctuation, logic, ect
• Be responsible for the magazine’s website and social media presence, assist in growing our loyal worldwide following
• Proofread hard copies
• Assist in creating promotional material and web/multimedia content as needed
• Represent the magazine at events as needed
• Collect reader/client feedback
• Additional editing and creative work on book projects related to the magazine and/or The Commercial Press
