Tool Shop Manager Needed
TITLE: Tool Shop Manager
REPORT TO: Vice General Manager
REGION Office: Beijing, China
BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE:
Organize and oversee the work of highly skilled tool makers fabricating high precision molding and assembly tools according to detailed designs and production schedules.
Work Performed
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of all tooshop personnel
- Assign tasks to ensure optimal work flo
- Provide technical assistance and guidance for complex jobs
- Requisition material needed and maintain records of the materials received.
- Inspect new tooling to make sure that it meets print specifications.
- Act as a liaison with the company's U.S. tool making facilities.
- Recommend measures to improve and increase quality and performance.
- Direct employees with respect to quality, cost, and delivery dates.
- Ensure that facilities, machinery, and equipment are properly maintained for efficient production.
- Ensure efficient and economical utilization of materials, machinery, and labor within the Toolshop. Eliminate wasteful practices.
- Maintain adherence to company procedures, policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
- Recommend and/or initiate personnel actions, including hiring, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
- Train new and current employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations when required.
- Accurately prepare and maintain appropriate production records.
- Approve overtime request and leave request.
- Verify time cards.
- Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
MATERIALS:
Tool steel, mold components, milling and drill bits, grinding wheels, finished and in-process tooling
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS:
Establish and maintain a leadership and rapport with all employees in the Toolshop, interact with the production, Engineering, Design and Scheduling Departments.
EQUIPMENT:
Routine care and operation of shared Toolshop machinery and computers
BUSINESS CONTACTS (Internal and External) :
Interact with outside tool vendors.

Qualifications & Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Three year college or of education and experience, or equivalent combination
Experience:
- At least four years experience as a high precision tool maker operating a wide variety of equipment including manual and CNC milling machines, surface grinders, die sinking EDMs, wire EDM machines, lathes, and micro-welders.
- At least three years of supervisory experience in a mold-making or tool and die shop.
Skills Required:
- Deep Knowledge of high precision injection molding tool making.
- Mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Superior background in the use of the following machines: manual and CNCs milling machines, surface grinders, die sinking EDMs, wire EDMs, lathes, etc.
- Ability to lead and motivate people.
- Problem solving ability.
- Capacity to work well under time pressure.
- Strong communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good oral and written English preferred.
